Description
Prospective cross-sectional study design on 50 men and 50 women who have end stage knee OA and are scheduled to receive primary TKA surgery. OA participants will visit the dynamics of human motion (DOHM) laboratory at the School of Biomedical Engineering, Dalhousie, twice for biomechanical and neuromuscular gait testing. The first visit will take place within the week prior to their scheduled primary TKA surgery. The second visit will take place at approximately one year later (plus or minus two months).
It also involves 50 asymptomatic men and 50 asymptomatic women who are age-matched to the OA group (age over 50 years).
Sample size= 100 OA (50 male/50 female), 100 asymptomatic (50 male/50 female)
