Isolated Locked Compression Plating Versus Cable Plating and Strut Allograft with Cerclage Wiring for Vancouver B1 Periprosthetic Femoral Fractures: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Eligibility

Inclusion Criteria:
  1. Age: over 18, no upper limit
  2. Vancouver type B1 periprosthetic fracture
  3. Fracture is amenable to either treatment group
  4. Prosthesis is well fixed
  5. Provision of written informed consent
Exclusion Criteria:
  1. Presence of an active infection around the fracture (soft tissue or bone)
  2. Trauma patients with an ISS > 15 or associated major injuries of the lower extremities
  3. Known substance abuse
  4. Likely problems, in the judgment of the Investigators, with maintaining follow-up

Description

Participants in this study will randomly be placed in one of two study groups:

  • Isolated Locked Compression Plate (plate and screws and cables/wires) OR
  • Cable Plating and Strut Allograft with Cerclage Wiring (plate and screws together with an allograft and wire cables)
