STABILITY 2: ACL Reconstruction +/- Lateral Tenodesis with Patellar vs. Quad Tendon

Eligibility

Inclusion Criteria:

The inclusion criteria for this study are patients between the ages of 14 and 25 who have an ACL deficient knee; skeletal maturity; and have two or more of : (1) participation in a competitive pivoting sport, (2) have a pivot shift of grade 2 or greater, (3) have generalized ligamentous laxity (Beighton score of 4 or greater) and/or genu recurvatum >10 degrees.

Exclusion Criteria:

The exclusion criteria for this study are any previous ACLR on either knee; multiple ligament injury (two or more ligaments requiring surgery); symptomatic articular cartilage defect requiring treatment other than debridement; >3 degrees of asymmetric varus; inflammatory arthroplasty; pregnancy.

Description

This is a randomized, controlled trial comparing ACLR with bone-patellar tendon-bone or quadriceps tendon autograft with or without lateral extra-articular tendonesis. The primary outcome of the present study will be based on the rate of clinical ACL failure at two years post-op.
